Jack Reznicki, Photographer, Instructor, Author & Chairman of the Board for PPA, joins host Scott Sheppard for an update on the latest activities at the Professional Photographers Association. Jack explains that as the largest association of professional photographers, PPA - over 22,000 members - provides a broad range of support resources and advocacy services for photographers including legal advice should something go wrong. Jack is also a commercial photographer located in New York City area and gives an update on his latest projects which recently included a catalog shoot for special needs kids. Jack shares his thoughts and experiences on the pending "Orphan Works" bill. He explains some steps to take to protect your work from copyright infringement. In today’s legal standards if you operate the camera and capture the image you automatically own the copyright to it but, Jack explains, what most people are not aware of is that because copyright is covered under federal laws an image must have been properly registered before any legal action or litigation to protect the owner’s rights can be filed or ruled for in court. So unless a photographer has registered their images it is almost impossible to file a suit regarding improper use or infringement and the federal court will not acknowledge the case for an unregistered image or work.

Photographer/Microsoft Icon of Imaging, Phil Borges joins host Scott Sheppard for his thoughts about participating in the MS Photo Summit which he explains is much more of a relaxed atmosphere than usual trade shows. Phil discusses his latest project and exhibition "Women Empowered", that he did in conjunction with the CARE organization. This is one of his first multi-media projects designed to reach a broader audience and includes video coverage and interviews. Phil explains some anecdotes about the amazing women and people he met while working on the project including several photo essays featuring surgeons and doctors specializing in helping burn victims. Phil completely immerses himself in the environment and hardships of his subjects and discusses how much he’s learned from being able to work on these projects.

Phil also shares some information about his favorite gear and workflow including his latest experiences incorporating audio and video components to his projects.
