Listen NOW…

timgrey_sj.jpgTim Grey, Senior Technology Evangelist, Microsoft Corporation joins host Scott Sheppard for an inside look at the recent 2nd Annual Microsoft Pro Photo Summit held July 11-12, 2007 on the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington. Tim’s background in photography and digital imaging give him insight to helping lead Microsoft’s efforts to bring together the photo industry and discuss their key issues.

pro_photo_summit_2007.gifThe summit included some keynotes, photo shoots hosted by their “Icons of Imaging” photographers, and technology showcases. The majority of the summit, however, was focused on panel discussions, open Q&A, and solving the workflow concerns of the participants. One of the hottest topics of the sessions were copyright concerns to help manage the digital rights of photos and the photographers who took them. Other topics included training and education, and using video to capture digital still images.

BillCrow.jpgBill Crow, HD Photo Program Manager, Microsoft then joined Tim Grey and Scott Sheppard in discussing Microsoft’s HD Photo Format designed to address the current limitations of JPEG technology. HD Photo offers twice the compression as standard JPEG, and supports a wide range of pixel formats including High Dynamic Range.

Format support is built into Windows Vista, and there are plug-ins for Photoshop on Windows, with additional plug-ins for Photoshop on the Mac OS soon to be available. Microsoft is committed to expanding HD Photo Format to being an industry standard, cross-platform compatibility so it can become an industry format not just a Microsoft native format.
