Andy Biggs, Wildlife & Outdoor Photographer and Founder of Gura Gear joins host Scott Sheppard to discuss his work and share the details of his newly launched company - Gura Gear - and photo gear bag, the "Kiboko". Andy is best known for his African Photographic Safaris and Photographic Workshops and plans at least a dozen field trips a year taking photographers through some of the most scenic areas throughout Africa. Andy explains how his passion for this continent inspired him to develop these popular tours to educate and assist other photographers in getting the most out of their experiences there.

Andy describes his favorite equipment and lenses, tips on his hybrid workflows, and configurations he prefers when shooting in the wild and tips on how he captures his amazing images of the incredible assortment of game, landscape, and scenery found on his safaris. Andy also licenses a number of his images for commercial work and stock, and his gallery features. He recently won a BBC Wildlife Photographer award for an aerial image of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.

Andy’s experiences traveling to remote locations, often in small planes helped him develop his new photo gear bag. The result of his many years of hands-on testing is the versatile Kiboko bag which is extremely lightweight, expandable, easy to travel with and most importantly fully designed to conform to your body. It fits all international carry-on requirements, including the restrictive limits of smaller planes so you never have to leave any critical component behind. Upon arrival, the unique configuration and butterfly opening provides easy access to your gear leaving you ready to shoot on location. To get an idea of just how much this unique bag can handle, check out the Travel Strategist, Steven Frischling’s recent review here.

The McNamara Report on Inside Digital Photo with Michael J. McNamara
This week’s topic: Is merger mania gripping the photo industry?

Recently, Panasonic merged with Sanyo to become the largest electronics firm in Japan, while Sigma bought out its imaging-sensor partner Foveon (there probably weren’t any other bidders on the latter purchase). In this segment, Mike discusses the impact these mergers might have on pro and consumer photographers, then peers through his crystal ball to predict what companies might benefit from mergers in the near future.

The McNamara Report on Inside Digital Photo with Michael J. McNamara
This week’s topic: DXOmark.com levels the playing field for camera tests

How objective are the camera tests you read in magazines and on web sites? That depends on who’s interpreting the test data as much as it depends on the accuracy of the test data itself. In some cases, “expert” evaluators have little background in color science, imaging processing, or even as working photographers. They get by with writing skills (and a touch of blarney) and rely heavily on the old adage: a one-eyed man can always lead the blind. But that could change with the launch of the new DXOmark.com website. On it you’ll find in depth analysis and test data on the RAW files produced by nearly every major digital SLR, and even a few new medium format models. Data includes color accuracy, noise and dynamic range at a variety of ISOs, true ISO sensitivity, and interactive tools that make side-by-side comparisons easier than ever.
