Key considerations include not only storage capacity but also reliability, speed, and lifespan of the cards.

RAW_CF16GB.gifBob explains that demanding shoots require cards that can perform consistently upon image capture. UDMA cards offer a new image transfer protocol that is faster and much more compatible with the newer and higher end digital SLR cameras. mecropped.jpgDamaso Reyes, Photographer/Photojournalist, joins Inside Digital Photo to discuss some tips about managing a hybrid – film & digital – workflow. As a photojournalist, Damaso spends a lot of time shooting on location most recently working on a photo documentary project called “The Europeans” where he explores the recent changes in Europe and how it effects it’s people.

kosovo1.jpgDamaso prefers to shoot film at this point since much of his story work and images are best portrayed in black and white. Damaso explains his workflow and preferred gear for this project which includes capturing the images consistently with a Leica film camera. He then scans the film negatives at a high-resolution which automatically creates a backup and provides him the flexibility of a digital file which he can adjust in Photoshop and also output the final images at a larger size digitally.

Hear details of his practical approach to managing the intricacies of a true hybrid workflow.

Since Bob often shoots in rather exotic remote locations, having redundancy in cameras, flash, disk storage, and image access is critical to ensure he is ready when the images are. An avid Nikon shooter, Bob brings his laptop but also relies on his Epson P3000/P5000 media device to backup his images. He generally doesn’t do much image editing on the road but prefers to fine tune his work when he returns from his trip on his desktop computer.

Bob shares some tips on how he transitioned from film to a digital workflow, how to print great images, and how to set up your shoot and explore new techniques using the digital tools. He also talks about color management and setting up the workflow to get the best result from capture to output.
