Thann Clark’s “Polaroid Summer”

Listen NOW…

biotest3_flyboy.jpgThann Clark, Photographer and graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography with a specialization in commercial advertising, joins host Scott Sheppard for a discussion and look back into the nostalgia of Polaroid imaging. Although currently a digital photographer who prefers Canon cameras and lenses, Thann’s recent work titled “Polaroid Summer” is currently on exhibit near his studio in Santa Barbara, CA.

Picture_3_1.pngHis exhibition is dedicated and inspired by his grandfather’s love of taking pictures with his Polaroid camera. Wishing to return to Thann’s imaging roots he prepared the entire show with summer stills shot traditionally as seen through the eyes of a digital artist. Hear the details on the specialized modifications he made to the camera in order to enhance the final pictures chosen for the show.

PR222_lrg_360_v2_m56577569830539390_1.jpgMost of the images were shot on standard Polaroid and 600 stock still found in drug and convenience stores nationwide. Once the Polaroids were imaged, Thann then scanned them into a digital file where they were corrected for color and balance in Adobe PhotoShop leaving them as true to their natural state as possible.

Thann sees himself more of an artist than a photographer who encourages others to work with non-digital and unique cameras such as Polaroid, Pin-Hole, or Holga units.
